DIY Mei Tai Pattern – 5

Pictures and Explanations:

  1. Pic 1 – Print and cut out the pattern. You may want to print multiple copies of some pieces to help you with the precise layout needed for a wrap conversion, especially if you are trying to match up a pattern. I do not cut out an extra body piece – I cut out the internal panel from a non-wrap piece of fabric and then use that internal panel as a pattern.

  2. Pic 2, – Cut 1 of the body out of whatever fabric you’re using for the internal panel. I used a scrap of an Ellevill Jade. I used a rotary cutter and self-healing cutting mat. Everything is cut much more accurately this way for me.

  3. Pic 3, 4 – Measure out the first shoulder wrap strap. I had made a practice Mei Tai out of a stretch denim (very comfy!), so I used that as a guide. 85 inches long is a good, safe length for most people. I kept the original hem of the wrap as much as possible. Each wrap strap is half the width of the wrap. You should lay out all the pattern pieces to be sure you will have enough fabric, first (see pics below)

  4. Pic 5 – Cut the second shoulder wrap strap. Since I saved the original taper of the wrap, I measured down a little bit. This saved fabric.
