DIY Mei Tai Pattern – 6

  1. Pic 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 – Redo your pattern layout. I took pictures of how I laid mine out. If you want the pattern to patch up, you will need to be careful of how you lay out the pieces. For instance, line up the horizontal hood with the horizontal body, and the vertical hood with the vertical body. If this is beyond you, or you are short on wrap fabric, you could do something like have a horizontal body with a vertical hood. Cut out your fabric.

  2. Pic 12, 13 – Hem the long wrap straps – you have four – the two shoulders and the two waist ties. Turn twice and stitch. Mine came out a little wonky since I did not steam press and my one year old insisted on sitting in my lap the entire time. It’s not noticeable, but I recommend steam pressing and not having a one year old in your lap.

  3. Pic 14, 15 – Internal Structure – rough out the elastic casing. See #6 from the “Additional Patterns” list. The pic shows the original length that I cut, but the pattern that you printed out shows something closer to what I ended up using. Cut them longer than you think you need.

  1. You refer to cutting out a pattern, is there one that I can download and print? Or dimensions you used? Maybe I am just missing it, but I couldn’t find one. I am really excited to try this, thank you so much for putting together such an awesome set of instructions!

    • Yes, look at page 1, the pattern links are underlined.
