At this point you could do some sort of finish on the edges of your fabric so that it does not ravel. Serge, zigzag, double/triple zigzag, etc.

  1. Sew the darts into the internal back piece. You just pinch them together and sew. Mark a spot where you will stop at the top of each so that they come out even. I also used a little Fray Stop on the dart seams.
  2. Pic 17 – Pin the fleece padding into place, pin the casings into place. I added a piece of baby ricrac into each casing because it is easy to avoid, and when I’m done sewing I just pin the elastic to it and pull the elastic through.

  3. Pic 18 – Sew padding – just stitch around edge to hold it in place. You will topstitch it later anyway. Sew casing – sew horizontal pieces first, then sew vertical piece, but DO NOT sew through the area where the vertical crosses the horizontal, or your elastic will not be able to go through. You need to sew very close to the edge of the casing. You want barely enough room for the elastic because you do not want it to twist.

  4. Pic 19  1 2 3– trim and burn the elastic. You want enough elastic so that you have extra on the sides to be able to double button the elastic. I button once, then turn the elastic end over and button again.
